What is an Adaptation?

Adaptations help you live safely and independently in your home. We offer equipment like grab rails and lever taps, as well as larger items such as stair lifts and level access showers. We can provide equipment such as grab rails and lever taps and/or larger items including stair lifts and level access showers. 

What Adaptations for your home do CBH offer?

Minor adaptations include:

• Grab rails
• Lever taps
• Electrical sockets
• Door entry systems
• Half steps

Planned adaptations include:

• Stair lifts
• Ramps
• Adapted kitchens
• Over-bath showers 
• Level access showers 
• Dropped kerbs 

How to Apply

This service is only available to Colchester City Council tenants.

If you require planned adaptations for your home, you can apply directly using Essex County Council’s online form to request an Occupational Therapist’s assessment by visiting the page below and clicking on the link ‘ASK FOR SOCIAL CARE HELP’

Occupational Therapist

All planned works must be supported by an Occupational Therapist’s assessment and will be subject to a home visit by the adaptations Manager for suitability 

Timescales

We aim to complete minor adaptations within 28 days. 

Timescales for planned adaptations depend on your individual needs. We will discuss this with you during the assessment.
