Housing Revenue Account

The Council is looking at how we spend the rent you pay on Council homes. This money goes into a special account called the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) – and it helps pay for:
- Repairs
- Home improvements
- Housing staff and services
- Building new homes
Right now, there’s a lot of pressure on this budget. New safety rules, rising costs, and the need for more affordable homes mean we have to make some tough choices.
Here’s an example of what might change: Right now, we replace things like kitchens and bathrooms after a set number of years. In the future, we might only replace them when they’re in poor condition, even if they’re old. So, if your kitchen is 18 years old but still working well, we might leave it for a few more years.
You can find out more about the HRA, and proposed changes in this video:
We want to make sure every penny is spent in the best way – and that your voice helps shape the future.
