The winners of our annual Good Neighbour Awards are revealed!
Winners and runners up of Colchester Borough Homes’ (CBH) Good Neighbour Awards, which celebrates residents who have made a positive contribution to their community, have been selected.
Residents across the borough were asked to nominate a CBH tenant who had gone the extra mile to offer support to others in their community during the Covid-19 pandemic. There was a choice of three categories to be nominated for; the ‘Neighbourhood Achievement Award’, the ‘Older Persons Champion’ and the ‘Good Neighbour Award’.
Neighbourhood Achievement Award – This award recognises a person or a group of people who have achieved something which has made a positive impact in the neighbourhood. They might have provided invaluable support to those who needed it throughout Covid-19, set up local groups which bring residents together or have helped to make their community look its best.
Congratulations to the winners, Mrs Hart and Mrs Payne, who helped keep the community gardens tidy and enhanced the area by supplying plants and bulbs throughout the first nationwide lockdown.
Older Persons Champion – This award recognises the dedication of tenants over 60 years of age who go out of their way to help the people who live around them.
Congratulations to the winner, Margaret Harkin, who helped neighbours by taking them to their local GP and encouraging them to join in socially distanced chats to help beat social isolation.
Good Neighbour Award – This award recognises people who are always there when someone needs them. They may assist with shopping, look after a resident’s house or help maintain someone else’s garden.
Congratulations to the winner, Jasmine Johnston, who supported her neighbours during lockdown by collecting their shopping, cleaning and prevented them from becoming socially isolated.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the annual celebration was unable to be hosted but Chair of the CBH Board, Dirk Paterson, has recorded a video thanking everyone who was nominated for being a good neighbour.
Dirk Paterson, Chair of the Board, said: “The Good Neighbour Awards shine a light on our tenants and leaseholders who have reached out to support others in their community, and it’s been truly inspiring hearing how residents have been supporting each other throughout Covid-19.
“I’d like to congratulate everyone who was nominated, and I encourage residents across the borough to be a good neighbour.”
Gareth Mitchell, Chief Executive of Colchester Borough Homes, said: “Many of our tenants and leaseholders provide vital support to others – it’s fantastic we have this opportunity to acknowledge their selfless hard work from the past few months.
“These good neighbours have dedicated their own time to benefit local communities and make a big impact to others around them throughout Covid-19. Congratulations to everyone who was nominated.”
