Colchester Landlord Forum

Our next landlord forum will take place from 7-9pm on Wednesday 16 October 2019 at Jobserve Community Stadium, United Way, Colchester, CO4 5UP. Registration will be open from 6:30pm. The forum is free to attend.

The draft agenda for the meeting on the 16 October is as follows:

Meeting Times

  • Registration: 6.30pm
  • Meeting Start: 7.00pm
  • Break: 7.45pm-8.00pm
  • Meeting Finish: 9.00pm

Guest Speakers

There will be presentations on a range of topics of interest to landlords, these will include:

  • The Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018 – the Act came into force on 20 March 2019. What new responsibilities does the Act place on landlords and how can landlords best protect themselves from claims? What are the penalties for landlords who fail to comply with the new law?
  • News & Legislative Update – Joanne Dron (NLA Senior Local Representative) will provide her usual entertaining and informative update on all matters of interest to private sector landlords;
  • Working with the Council/CBH – we will provide an update on the steps we are taking both to give landlords greater confidence in letting their properties to our clients and to speed-up the letting process.

Extended Q&A Session

There will be an extended Q&A session to discuss some recent developments in the private rented sector. For example, last year the government consulted on the need for a Housing Court and earlier this year announced plans to abolish the S21 (no fault) possession procedure (see here for more information – consultation closes on 12 October 2019) – what are the implications for landlords and how can we ensure that the private rented sector remains viable for both landlords and tenants? We hope that this extended Q&A session will provide some lovely debate.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event? There is free parking on site.

The Landlord Forum is held in partnership with the National Landlords Association and Colchester Borough Council. Colchester Borough Homes, the Council and the NLA share the common goal of sharing knowledge with landlords to improve property rental for all. The Colchester Landlord Forum is free to attend and provides landlords with a wealth of information and advice in comfortable surroundings.
