Colchester Borough Homes (CBH) is continuing to strengthen its commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion through its work with the LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge, which promotes safe, inclusive and welcoming homes for LGBTQ+ residents.
By signing the pledge, CBH has committed to challenging discrimination, maintaining high-quality housing services and ensuring LGBTQ+ voices are heard when shaping services. The pledge also reinforces the organisation’s aim of creating a culture where everyone feels respected, valued and able to be themselves.
As part of this commitment, specialist LGBTQ+ housing awareness training was delivered to CBH staff by Stonewall Housing on 25 June 2026. The training was designed to increase understanding of the experiences and challenges LGBTQ+ residents may face and equip colleagues with the knowledge needed to provide inclusive and supportive services.
The programme included a half-day training session for frontline staff, alongside Toolbox Talk sessions for frontline operatives and the Voids Team, helping to embed learning across a broad range of customer-facing roles.
Building on this work, CBH has now submitted its Pledge Pioneer evidence, demonstrating the progress made towards embedding LGBTQ+ inclusion across both housing services and the workplace. The submission highlights the steps taken to ensure policies, practices and customer engagement activities support LGBTQ+ residents and colleagues.
The LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge represents an important part of CBH’s ongoing commitment to creating homes and communities where everyone feels safe, supported and included.
