Good Neighbour Awards – 2023 Winners Announced

Joseph Goddard – Younger Person Champion (Good Neighbour Awards) 2023

The winners of Colchester Borough Homes’ (CBH) Good Neighbour Awards, which celebrate those who go the extra mile and make a significant difference to the lives of their neighbours or the local community, were revealed on Wednesday, 4 October at its AGM. 

The awards, which were presented to the winners by tenant board members, celebrate people who donate their time to help improve the city’s communities by making them inclusive and welcoming. There were six categories this year: Younger Person ChampionOlder Person ChampionBest Garden AwardCarer AwardCommunity Champion, and Good Neighbour Award.

 The winners of the 2023 Good Neighbour Awards are:

  • Joseph Goddard – Younger Person Champion
  • Patricia Lloyd – Older Person Champion
  • Mandy Bartholomew (Winstree Court communal garden) – Best Garden Award
  • Roxy Karolchyk – Carer Award
  • Ella Havell – Community Champion
  • Jasmine Johnston – Good Neighbour Award

Winners were presented with certificates, flowers, and vouchers worth up to £75 to thank them for being such good neighbours and going that extra mile.

Esme Cole, Chair of CBH, said: “This year’s winners are all outstanding examples of what it means to be a good neighbour. They have gone above and beyond to help others and make their communities better places to live, and they are a testament to the many kind and caring people who live in Colchester.“I would like to congratulate all of the winners on their awards. They are truly deserving of this recognition. I would also like to thank everyone who nominated someone for an award. It is heartening to see so many people who care about their communities and their neighbours.

“Together, we can build a stronger and more compassionate Colchester.”
