Colchester Borough Homes strikes Gold
Colchester Borough Homes’ (CBH) continuing commitment to developing and supporting its employees has once again been recognised with the award of a prestigious Investors in People (IiP) Gold award.
IiP status is a globally recognised mark of excellence and high performance through people management. Being presented with this award recognises CBH’s approach to creating positive outcomes for its 215 employees through its staff engagement work.
This is the second consecutive three-year period that CBH has been awarded this prestigious recognition.
CBH manage and maintain around 7,000 residential, commercial, and public buildings in the local area on behalf of Colchester Borough Council.
Through IiP organisations are benchmarked against the best performing companies across the world. The Gold accreditation acknowledges CBH’s commitment to continually reflect, learn, adapt, and drive improvement through its culture, leadership, systems, processes, strategy and people.
It reflects the strength of the leadership from the CBH Board and Chief Executive as well as the policies and procedures it has in place. Only a small number of organisations attain IiP Gold status, and the achievement reflects CBH’s continued determination to make it a great place to work.
The achievement is even more significant considering the unprecedented challenges faced in the wake of the global pandemic.
In its assessment report, IIP lauded CBH for its strategies, leadership and culture, identifying several areas of strength including:
- “You ‘stepped up’ as an organisation in so many ways – the way you set, share and deliver strategies, the changes made to your delivery of services, your engagement with customers”
- “CBH’s strategies and individual roles embrace social responsibility not as an extra, more as a purpose.”,
- “There is an inert responsibility of supporting the community and acting in the support of those who are vulnerable”
IIP Assessor, Clare Laidler, said “CBH is exemplary of an Investors in People organisation. Engrained in the organisational fibre is how to adapt to deliver the best for the community. Leaders role model values and engender a culture of trust, supported by continued development of skills. People are empowered and recognised for their commitment and impact, with clear and detailed evaluation of that impact”
CBH Chief Executive, Philip Sullivan, said, “This is a fantastic achievement for CBH. Despite the challenges that organisations have faced over the last couple of years we have remained focussed on our staff and customers and this is recognised by the Gold IiP accreditation.
“The feedback and recommendations from the IiP assessment will also help us to focus upon how we can be the best possible organisation for our staff and customers”
Chair of the CBH Board, Dirk Paterson, said “Achieving Investors in People Gold, for our second consecutive three-year period, is a wonderful achievement for CBH.
“It is a fantastic endorsement of our commitment to how we engage, communicate and reward our people. I am hugely proud of our team and this continued accreditation is an important recognition of CBH’s leading practices in human resource management and development.”
