Colchester Borough Homes partners with Solo Housing to provide housing needs for single residents

We want to hear your views on how we're doing

Colchester Borough Homes are proud to be working with Solo Housing to support single people, over the age of 18 in Colchester, who are struggling to find affordable accommodation.

Solo Housing assists single people across the East of England to find a safe and affordable place to live, by matching an individual with a lodgings landlord who has a spare room in their home. Colchester residents, who own a property and have a spare room, will be able to provide criteria of a person they are looking for to rent a room in their home and then meet with a potential tenant that has been matched to that criteria. The scheme may also provide the householder with an extra, tax-free income of up to £7500.

Colchester Borough Homes will refer potential lodgers on their housing list to Solo Housing. The partnership will ensure more people in the Borough receive suitable accommodation which is safe and secure.

Colchester Borough Homes Chief Executive Gareth Mitchell said: “It’s great to see partnership work between Colchester Borough Homes and Solo Housing to help provide suitable and secure accommodation which is also affordable.

“We aim to be the trusted choice for local housing and community services within Colchester, and I encourage any residents in Colchester, who either own a property and have a spare room or are looking for an affordable place to live, to contact us to find out more about the Solo Lodging scheme”.

Nicki Barnett, Shared Housing and Lodgings Manager at Solo Lodgings said: “Working with Colchester Borough Homes means we can assist independent people who need somewhere to live and take the worry of the unknown away from homeowners who are interested in letting their spare room.

“Solo Housing has been providing housing solutions to single, independent people since 1985 and we are delighted to be working in partnership with Colchester Borough Homes.”
