Colchester Borough Homes announces Good Neighbour Award Winners
The competition is part of CBH’s Resident Engagement Strategy. Tenants and leaseholders were invited to enter and nominate others to be in with a chance of winning vouchers worth up to £100.
The Good Neighbour Awards celebrate people who donate their time to help improve the borough’s communities by making them inclusive and welcoming. There were four categories; the ‘Good Neighbour award’, the ‘Action against Anti-Social Behaviour award’, the ‘Neighbourhood Achievement Award’ and the ‘Older Persons Champion award’.
The ‘Good Neighbour Award’ category is for people who are always there when someone needs them; they may look after someone’s house or pet while they’re away, help maintain someone’s garden or help with shopping.
The ‘Action Against Anti-Social Behaviour’ category recognises a person or a group of people who are dealing with anti-social behaviour in their neighbourhood. They may be involved in cleaning up graffiti or litter, they may have set up a youth club or playpark or they may have bravely given evidence against anti-social behaviour in court.
The ‘Neighbourhood Achievement Award’ category is for a person, or a group of people, who have achieved something that others would like to recognise for making an impact in their neighbourhood. They may have helped organise activities for other people such as street parties, litter picks or setting up singing groups etc.
The ‘Older Persons Champion’ category specifically recognises the dedication of tenants over 60 years of age who go out of their way to help the people who live around them.
The results of the competitions were announced at an event held in the Mayor’s Parlour at the Town Hall.
Gareth Mitchell, Chief Executive of Colchester Borough Homes, said: “Our tenants and leaseholders have some truly inspiring stories to tell. Many of them dedicate their own time to benefit local communities and make a big impact to others around them. It’s great we have these awards as they allow us to recognise and appreciate all their hard work. Congratulations to everyone who was nominated.”
