Accessibility Statement

This Accessibility Statement applies to the Colchester Borough Homes company website: https://cbhomes.org.uk

Using this website

This website is provided by Colchester Borough Homes Ltd which is a subsidiary of Colchester Borough Council. We are committed to making this website as accessible as possible for people with a disability. We want to ensure that the website is easy to navigate and to understand.

When using this website you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen.
  • change the size of the browser window and see the text reflow into a single column.
  • Change device orientation between horizontal and vertical view without obscuring content.

How accessible is this website?

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible. We have identified the following areas:

  • You cannot modify the line height or spacing of text
  • You cannot change colours, contrast levels and fonts.
  • Most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software

In addition, we need to fully test the following:

  • Skipping to the main content when using a screen reader
  • Listening to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
  • Navigating most of the website using speech recognition software

We are working to deliver key improvements by 31 March 2022 Further details are provided below.

Reporting accessibility problems with this website

You can access information to help make your device easier to read if you have a disability. AbilityNet has advice on the following:

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Compliance Status

Colchester Borough Homes is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below:

Non-Accessible Content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • You cannot change colours, contrast levels and fonts.
  • You cannot modify the line height or spacing of text.

We plan to fix the above issues by 31 March 2022.

  • Some of our PDFs are essential to providing our services and are not fully accessible to screen reader software.

We plan to either fix the above issue or replace the PDFs with accessible HTML pages by 31 March 2022.

Disproportionate burden

When using a screen reader there is no way to skip repeated content in the page header. A ‘skip to main content’ option cannot be provided with the current website template since it has been designed to return focus to the top of the page.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they are not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs we publish will meet accessibility standards.

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

We are working with others to complete the review of our website and will deliver key improvements, including those detailed above, by 31 March 2022.
