Colchester Landlord Forum

Our next Landlord Forum event will be taking place from 7-9pm on Wednesday 25 April 2018 at Weston Homes Community Stadium, United Way, Colchester. Registration will be open from 6:30pm.

The forum has been set up to meet the needs of local landlords with a series of presentations and discussions throughout the evening. Landlords will also be able to meet and chat to staff from Colchester Borough Homes and Colchester Borough Council who work in a range of services, including our Housing Options, Housing Benefit and Private Sector Housing Teams.

We are delighted to confirm that the Colchester Landlord Forum will now be held in partnership with the National Landlords Association and Colchester Borough Council. Colchester Borough Homes, the Council and the NLA share the common goal of sharing knowledge with landlords to improve property rental for all. The Colchester Landlord Forum is free to attend and provides landlords with a wealth of information and advice in comfortable surroundings.

Speakers at our 25 April event will include:

· Joanne Dron, Representative of National Landlords Association - Joanne will update attendees on recent changes to our rules and working practices. If you want to stay ahead of the competition and ensure you are aware of the many changes coming our way, then this talk is a must for you.

· Antony Holdsworth, Director of Antony J. Holdsworth - In recent years landlords have taken rather a battering on the tax front. The main issues are making tax digital (which many landlords know little about) and of course the phased reduction of tax relief for mortgage interest. In this session Antony Holdsworth will highlight the real impact of these changes and summarise practical solutions to the problems that you can use now, which will get you the results you want. It really isn't all doom and gloom!

· Anna Watson, Private Sector Housing Manager at Colchester Borough Council - Anna will look at the existing mandatory licensing scheme, changes in the pipeline, and how they affect you as a landlord.

Colchester Borough Homes operates two separate schemes which may be of interest to landlords.

The Private Sector Leasing Scheme  Private Sector Leasing Scheme leases your property to Colchester Borough Council for a period of 3-5 years. The council sub-lets the property and returns it to you in the same condition as when the agreement started (less fair wear and tear).

The Home Finder Scheme helps tenants secure accommodation through the payment of rent in advance and a damage deposit. We are planning to make significant changes to the Home Finder Scheme: more information about this at the Forum on 25 April!

We are keen to build positive working relationships with as many private sector landlords as possible and are confident that landlords who attend the Forum will find it useful.

Advance booking is essential and the event is free of charge. Please complete the Attendance Form below.
