Colchester Borough Homes staff raise over £500 for winter shelter

22 February 2018

Beacon House Project

Staff at Colchester Borough Homes (CBH) have raised £583 for a local winter shelter project.

Opened in the hall of St Peter's Church on 14 December, the Guest House Project is organised by local charity Beacon House and has space for up to 12 guests nightly. It welcomes those in need with a hot meal, a safe bed for the night and a cooked breakfast in the morning.

The charity is one of CBH's partner organisations in providing services for homeless people and those at risk of homelessness. Based in Colchester town centre, it offers practical help, medical care, occupational therapy, life skills training and advice to marginalised people in the area.

A raffle was organised by CBH's Staff Forum and all the proceeds from ticket sales have been donated to Beacon House for use in running the Guest House project. A cheque was presented to the charity on 21 February.

Sarah Jones, Chair of CBH's Staff Forum, said, "Homelessness is an issue which is close to our hearts and many of our staff work with people who are, or are threatened with becoming, homeless. Working with partner organisations like Beacon House enables us to combine the skills, resources and knowledge of many to make the biggest impact we can.

"I am pleased that so many of our staff took part in the raffle enabling us to make this donation to a project which is making a really positive difference to lives this winter."
