On 28 September Laurel and Redwood Court blocks, in Greenstead, will be visited by Colchester Borough Homes' (CBH) Make a Difference (MAD) team.

The team, comprised of staff, volunteers, residents and local organisations and community groups, is tasked with helping local communities by reinvigorating areas across Colchester during a programme of events.

In Greenstead, this will include litter-picking, sweeping, rubbish clearing and a deep clean of the flooring around the flats.

In addition, there will be extensive gardening work to cut back and tidy vegetation, re-mulching, removing moss and painting of picket fencing. We will also be planting 2000 daffodil bulbs in Magnolia fields.

CBH is always keen to welcome any further volunteers who would like to offer their services for their MAD Day programme. All skills are welcome and needed; from painting and DIY through to gardening, or just someone willing to help out.

This will be the penultimate MAD Day of the year that has already seen five days that have already made a huge difference to local areas. To see some of the excellent work that has already been carried out as part of this year's programme, please visit

Anyone interested in getting involved with this year's MAD Days should get in touch with CBH via or by calling 01206 282514.

Karen Loweman, Director of Housing at Colchester Borough Homes said: "What a joy it is to see that our MAD Days are met with such enthusiasm from local people - I can't stress enough the difference it makes to communities and local areas.

"We have already seen some huge improvements across the borough as a result of our MAD Days and are keen to keep that momentum going right to the end of the programme of events."
