Community Fund Applications to be selected in Greenstead

Date Published: 12 September 2017

Colchester Borough Homes (CBH) tenants and leaseholders are invited to attend an event in Greenstead on 19 September to vote on how CBH's Community Fund is allocated to local groups and charities.

The event, organised by CBH, encourages tenants and leaseholders to take an active role in helping to decide which local community groups will receive a share of its £40,000 Community Fund.

The fund supports the local community by awarding small grants to local charities and community groups throughout Colchester.

It supports CBH's key values, aiming to build strong and thriving communities across the Borough. Local groups are able to apply for funding until the 29 September with the final voting event taking place in November

Following this year's first Community Fund voting event held in May, eight local groups and projects were awarded funds which are already being put to good use locally. So far this year, successful applicants have included the Wivenhoe River Clean, Evergreens Pensioners Club, Hazelmere Multicultural Week and Magnolia Gardens, to name a few.

CBH are inviting their tenants, leaseholders and members of the local community to come along to the Greenstead Community Centre on 19 September between 4pm - 6pm to vote for their favourite project and meet their staff in a relaxed, friendly environment. The Community Centre will be providing a selection of hot drinks, cakes, biscuits and fruit throughout the event.

A voting system will be in place at each of the events to decide the outcomes of the applications by using 'yes' or 'no' tokens.

There will be another opportunity to vote for other projects at a similar event which will be held on 28 November at Enoch House, Hawthorn Avenue, 9 - 11:30am.

Karen Loweman, Director of Housing at Colchester Borough Homes says, "These Community Fund events form part of our Resident Engagement Strategy and are a wonderful opportunity for our residents to have their say on how this fund should be allocated to benefit local communities.

"We've received a number of fantastic applications for this next round of funding and I would encourage our customers to get involved and come along to the event to vote for their favourite applications and meet our friendly staff."
