Making a Difference in Old Heath

24 August 2017

St Annes MAD Day

Old Heath is the next local area to benefit from a Colchester Borough Homes (CBH) Make a Difference (MAD) Day with the team visiting Speedwell Road, Old Heath on 31 August.

The MAD Day team has shown a tremendous amount of commitment as the 2017 programme moves into its final phase. Together, they have made a huge difference to the locations they've visited in Tiptree, Greenstead, Shrub End and St. Anne's, providing valuable support to help improve these communities.

MAD Days are organised throughout the year by CBH to bring staff, volunteers, local groups and residents together to visit specific areas across the borough, making a difference by encouraging pride, and lending helping hands, in the improvement of community spaces.

The team will be onsite in Speedwell Road from 9am on 31 August to carry out a number of scheduled works drawn from discussions with CBH's Resident Engagement Team and Community Housing Officers, who have been in touch with local residents about the improvements they would like to see. The works scheduled include: repairing and replacing damaged fencing and gates, tidying gardens, litter picks and weeding.

On the day itself, participants will be focusing on clearing gardens and weeding along the whole length of Speedwell Road and CBH would like to encourage residents and volunteers to come and meet them in the MAD Day Hub, located in a central point, for a relaxed coffee and chat. To further involve the whole community, CBH will be holding a free fun event for children between 11am - 1pm on the playing field in Speedwell Road.

Karen Williams, Head of Housing Management for Colchester Borough Homes said, "Our MAD Days have been so encouraging this year and are having such a positive impact on residents, tenants and communities as a whole. Getting feedback from local residents about the issues that are important to them is vital for CBH so we can make a real difference to their communities and the response has been fantastic. The strength of local support and the hard work and spirit of the volunteers is what makes these days so successful and if anyone wants to volunteer please do get in contact with us."

Anyone interested in getting involved with this year's MAD Days should get in touch with CBH via or by calling 01206 282514.
