Customers invited to vote on Community Fund Applications

16 May 2017

Colchester Borough Homes (CBH) are organising a series of events where their tenants and leaseholders can decide which local community groups will receive a share of a £40,000 Community Fund.

The CBH Community Fund supports the local community by making small grants and awards to local charities and community groups throughout Colchester. Previous year's funding has been awarded to Berechurch Youth Club, Community Youth Project, Colchester Credit Union, and Conservation Volunteers, to name a few.

Supporting the key values of CBH, the Community Fund aims to build strong local communities across the Borough. Local groups are able to apply for funding until 29 September with three voting events take place between May and November.

CBH are inviting their tenants and leaseholders to drop in to its first event at Greenstead Local Housing Office on 22 May between 11.30am-1pm to vote for their favourite project as well as meet CBH's Resident Engagement Team and enjoy refreshments. There will be two further opportunities to vote for other projects at similar events on the following dates;

· 19 September - Greenstead Community Centre, Hawthorn Avenue, 4- 6pm

· 28 November - Enoch House, Hawthorn Avenue, 9-11.30am

A voting system will be in place at each of the roadshows to decide the outcomes of the applications by using 'yes' or 'no' tokens.

Gareth Mitchell, Chief Executive of Colchester Borough Homes says, "The Community Fund is a great funding opportunity for local organisations and charities and for our tenants and leaseholders to have their say on how this fund is allocated.

"We've already received a number of applications from a variety of groups and hope to receive more in the months ahead. I would encourage our customers to get involved and drop in to one of our forthcoming events to vote for their favourite applications and meet our friendly staff."
