Photography Competition Winner

Colchester Borough Homes' (CBH) is thrilled to have won the 2017 National Federation of ALMOs (NFA) Photography Competition titled 'Our House, Our Street: The Place We Call Home'.

The competition winner was announced yesterday evening at the NFA Annual Conference in Birmingham where the shortlisted entries were displayed and attendees asked to vote for the winning entry. The award was presented to CBH's Chief Executive, Gareth Mitchell, by the competition's sponsor, Resource.

The aim of this year's competition, 'Our House, Our Street: The Place We Call Home', was to challenge the negative perception some may have of social housing through images of well-maintained council-owned properties together with their residents who take pride in their much-loved homes and communities.

CBH's winning photograph is of its oldest resident, May Bareham at her home in one of CBH's sheltered schemes, Harrison Court in West Mersea. The photograph shows May alongside her family photos and memories of her long life and was taken by a member of CBH's Resident Involvement and Enabling Team.

Gareth Mitchell, Chief Executive of Colchester Borough Homes says, "It's fantastic that CBH has won this year's NFA Photography Competition. I was delighted to accept this award on behalf of the organisation and I know that May Bareham is also really pleased that the photograph of her and her home has won this national competition.

"May wonderfully demonstrates that social housing is more than bricks and mortar and demonstrates the real pride and care that many of our residents put into their homes."
