Colchester Borough Homes' Make a Difference Days are back for 2017

20 April 2017

Colchester Borough Homes' (CBH) Make a Difference (MAD) Days are back for 2017 and the programme starts with a visit to Chestnut Way, Tiptree on Thursday 27 April.

CBH's MAD Days are now in their sixth year and bring together CBH staff, CBH Quality Assurance Advisors, volunteers, residents, and Councillors who visit specific areas of the community to help make improvements and encourage pride in community spaces.

The 2017 programme of works will focus on tasks such as general community clean-ups, planting, garage painting, litter picking and washing area improvements. Specific tasks for Chestnut Way include clearing the redundant clothes drying areas to make these usable for residents .

Tenant consultations will be conducted by our Community Housing Officers both before and after the MAD Days giving our tenants who live in the areas being visited, the opportunity to make suggestions about what tasks need addressing to maximise the difference the team can make on the day.

On the days themselves, CBH staff will also be stationed at the MAD Day Hub, located at a central point. This Hub will enable tenants and local community members to drop by, have a cup of tea or coffee and chat to members of staff from across the organisation for advice and support in an informal setting.

Gareth Mitchell, Chief Executive of Colchester Borough Homes says, "I am delighted that our MAD Days are back for 2017. These are a fantastic opportunity for our staff, stakeholders and tenants to collectively work together to carry out tasks which will make a difference to local communities. These events are always popular and we would encourage people to get involved whether it be volunteering for specific tasks, visiting the Hub for a coffee and a chat on the day or feeding back vital information to our staff."

Cllr Tina Bourne, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Public Protection says, "CBH's MAD days are a wonderful example of local communities working together to make a difference locally. The MAD day team will be visiting seven new locations across the Borough this year and I would encourage as many residents as possible to support the team and get involved and help make a difference in these communities."

The team will be on site at Chestnut Way, Tiptree from 10am - 3pm on Thursday 27 April and CBH would like to encourage as many people as possible to drop by, find out more about MAD days and if they can, volunteer and spare a few hours of their time to help make the day a success.
