Colchester Borough Homes' a finalist in National Photography Competition

9th March 17

Colchester Borough Homes' (CBH) is delighted to announce that it has been selected as a finalist in the 2017 National Federation of ALMOs (NFA) Photography Competition titled 'Our House, Our Street: The Place We Call Home'.

This annual photography competition recognises the important role photography plays in communicating and engaging with others and supports the NFA's key priority of challenging negative portrayals and perceptions of social housing and its residents.

The aim of this year's competition, 'Our House, Our Street: The Place We Call Home', is to challenge the negative perception some may have of social housing through images of well-maintained council-owned properties together with their residents who take pride in their much-loved homes and communities.

CBH's shortlisted entry is a photograph of its oldest resident, May Bareham at her home in one of CBH's sheltered schemes, Harrison Court, which is located in West Mersea. The photograph shows May alongside her family photos and memories of her long life and was taken by a member of CBH's Resident Involvement and Enabling Team.

Karen Loweman, Director of Housing for Colchester Borough Homes says, "We're thrilled to be selected as a finalist in the 2017 NFA Photography Competition. This competition is a fantastic way to showcase that social housing is more than bricks and mortar and the love and care that many residents, such as May, put into their homes."

CBH's shortlisted photographic entry will be exhibited and the winner announced during the evening of 27 April at the NFA Annual Conference at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Birmingham.
